Suesca climbing for beginners

Yes: you can climb in Suesca with no experience at all. The usual way to start is a guided half-day plan: the guide teaches gear and safety, takes you to school routes on top rope, and finishes with a rappel. You do not need your own climbing shoes or any prior climbing.

Short answer. Go with a guide, on a 2–4 hour plan, with gear and insurance included. Arrive at the entrance to the Rocks, register at El Turpial, and let the guide pick routes at your level. Budget the El Turpial entrance (COP 10,000–15,000 per day) on top of the guided plan.

What you will do on your first outing

  1. Safety induction — harness, helmet, rope, knots and how to belay on top rope.
  2. 2 school routes — easy routes, in turns, with the guide belaying and coaching technique.
  3. Rappel — a controlled descent, included in almost every beginner plan.
  4. Walk along the Rocks — access runs along the rail line beside the cliff, past the Virgin on her ledge.
